As part of the Investiture weekend, liturgical celebrations will be held at the magnificent Holy Name of Jesus Cathedral, the seat of the Diocese of Raleigh. Dedicated on July 26, 2017, the Cathedral can accommodate more than 2,000 worshippers, making it the largest Catholic church in eastern North Carolina and the heart of major diocesan liturgies, pilgrimages, and events.

The Cathedral was designed by O’Brien & Keane to reflect both the timeless beauty of Catholic tradition and the needs of a growing community. Its soaring copper-clad dome, weighing over 160 tons, rises prominently over Raleigh’s skyline. Inside, restored stained-glass windows from the historic Church of the Ascension in Philadelphia fill the nave with vibrant color and sacred imagery.
Music is a central part of the Cathedral experience. The C.B. Fisk Opus 147 pipe organ, installed in 2018, provides a rich musical foundation for worship, and the 50-bell carillon marks the hours and celebrates special occasions with a joyful resonance.

The Cathedral project began in response to the Diocese’s need for a larger worship space to serve a rapidly growing Catholic population. Groundbreaking took place in January 2015, and after two and a half years of careful construction, the Cathedral was dedicated in July 2017. Built with enduring materials and designed to inspire, it stands as a symbol of faith for generations to come.
